World War II Veterans Organization1 - Updates on the World War II Memorial and other information of interest to our World War II vets.
American Ex-Prisoners of War Organization ~ organization is a national organization for American citizens who were captured by the enemy. Membership is open to all former prisoners of war from any theater in any war, all former civilian internees and to the families of such persons. There is no such thing as an "associate" member and we have no auxiliaries. Each and every member is entitled to all privileges of membership. At the present time, the American Ex-Prisoners of War has over 300 Chapters and State Departments, representing over 27,000 members. Our purpose is our motto: "We exist to help those who cannot help themselves." Founded April 14, 1942 the American Ex-Prisoners of War organization has existed for the purpose of helping others.  The organization of former POW's (military and civilian), their spouses, families and civilian internees has helped those affected by their capture deal with the trauma through friendship of those who shared a common experience.  The friendships have formed lasting relationships from POW camps until late in life.
Advocacy and Intelligence Index (AII) Solid documentation and archives. Monthly issue-related reviews. Legislative updates.
Ted Guy's Hanoi - A truly inspiring site. Testimonials from former POWs as well as POW Camp maps, overflight views of the POW camps and diagrams of the layout of the camps and prison cells.

GX2527 - In 1992, the Authenticator Code of Major Peter Matthes was picked up on satelite imagery outside the Dong Vei Prison in Vietnam. The U.S. govenment responded to that call for help by burying Major Matthes and his crewmates. Buried with no remains and no evidence, this case is another example of the USG's creative accounting. Today his family continues to ask... where is Major Matthes. This site is a MUST see.
POW Forum ~ Good, solid documentation. 1205 Document, Baron 52 Case Synopsis, Lima Site 85 history & synopsis. Solid links.
Rescue Dawn, the Movie vs the Truth - This movie plays fast and loose with the truth and maligns a courageous POW, Eugene DeBruin. Learn the truth about Eugene DeBruin from the words of Deiter Dengler and the last survivor of the daring escape from a Lao POW Camp.
World War II Families for the Return of the Missing ~ An advocacy group of volunteers that can assist in the confusing and often frustrating process of locating and repatriating the remains of our missing service personnel from World War II.
Korean War Project ~ the most complete database of Korean War POW/MIAs. In our opinion, one of the best sites on the internet.
POW Network - Largest collection of biographies on Vietnam POW/MIAs. These bios contain the most accurate information available on circumstances of loss. This site also houses the "Operation Smoking Gun" collection. Debuting on the World Wide Web on June 20, 1996, this collection contains over 1,400 documents for your viewing. This site is a valuable research resource.

The Virtual Wall ~ Vietnam Veterans Memorial ~ “The Virtual Wall is an on-line Vietnam War memorial. Each memorial page may contain one or more photographs, remembrances, graphics of military unit patches and awards, citations of awards for valor, and a synopsis of the incident that caused the loss of life. Its database accumulates by relatives or friends of a casualty contributing remembrances, photographs and their own details to The Virtual Wall using the websites free-to-use facilities. The website includes a list of those awarded military honors, the use of photographs in a pictorial index and a search facility. It has enabled thousands of contacts between relatives and military buddies of a casualty. The Virtual Wall is modeled on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, in Washington, DC, USA, which has the names of over 58,000 American military men.”

never forgotten

If you are able,
save them a place
inside of you
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can
no longer go.

Be not ashamed to say
you loved them,
though you may
or may not have always.

Take what they have left
and what they have taught you
with their dying
and keep it with your own.

And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane,
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind.

Major Michael Davis O'Donnell
